The mission of ARHS library media program is:

  • To provide the resources, services and instruction that will assist students and teachers in becoming effective and efficient seekers and users of information.
  • To assist students in developing an appreciation of the value of literature and of reading as a means of access to knowledge and as an enjoyable lifelong pursuit.

In accordance with the Archbishop Rummel High School mission statement, students are challenged to use the library, information skills, and independent reading to respect, understand, and appreciate the diversity of mankind.  Students should use this acquired knowledge to better their local and global communities.

Programs:
Information Literacy / Research Skills -
The librarians teach research and information literacy skills and strategies to students and teachers both individually and to entire classes in conjunction with academic assignments.

Reading Counts – This motivational reading program encourages students to read by allowing them free choice reading selections from a wide-variety of books.  When students finish reading their selected books, they take a 10 – 30 question computerized quiz.  According to program literature, a score of 70% or higher verifies that the student has successfully read the book.  Students are asked to read one free choice title each quarter and two each summer.

Library Outstanding Reading Counts Awards & Grandparents’ Million Word Reader Awards
-  Many students read “above and beyond” the established goal.  Those students are honored at semester luncheons given by the librarians.  In addition, the top readers in each grade level who qualify by reading over a million words are given monetary awards sponsored by the Grandparents Club at the end of the school year.
