You have arrived at the
new webpage for the Rummel Varsity Tennis Team. My name is Coach
John Schmidt, and I am the new tennis coach.
Weekly I will
be discussing the game of tennis, so that all of our Rummel
community can take advantage of my 30 Years of tennis
teaching/coaching experience. Each school week I will post a tested
tennis tip, the team's match schedule during our season,
and general tennis information concerning our talented members,
(e.g. scholarship information, USTA Tournament information, and
standards/requirements to be a part of a winning tradition at
Rummel. I will also use this page to espouse my
personal philosophies of tennis (e.g. Why would anyone in this day
and age not learn to play the great game of tennis).
Mission Statement
To create a long term commitment to a winning tradition at
Archbishop Rummel High School. A successful
winning tradition is built by carefully
coaching young men when they first enter Archbishop Rummel as a
student and as a tennis team member. The mission will be successful
when our tradition of winning will open the door to students who
seek success and pride through the game of tennis.
Tested Tennis
Tip #2
Many of you out there play a lot of doubles, and here is some
advice from Donald Budge when asked to choose the perfect doubles
player.
"He would at all times play his volleys deep and down the center,
using the alleys only when they were wide open, but even hating
himself when doing so"
