Mu Alpha Theta
A national high school
mathematics organization, Mu Alpha Theta is primarily composed of
students from the math honors classes, but is open to other students
by invitation, who have performed with distinction in math courses
to date. Full membership is open to seniors, juniors, and second
semester honors sophomores. Associate membership is open to first
semester sophomores in the math honors classes and other selectively
chosen upperclassmen. At the meetings, members and guest speakers
discuss math topics of special interest and prepare for the various
competitions held at the annual state convention and math
tournaments throughout the year.
The Archbishop Rummel chapter participates in mathematical
contests. In addition, the chapter participates in district meetings
with the other clubs in Jefferson Parish. In August of each year,
there is a national convention which is occasionally attended by
representatives from the Archbishop Rummel chapter.
