The Archbishop Rummel Rugby Football Club is in its third year as an officially sponsored club at Rummel, and operated for two years before the 2005-06 season as the Raider Rugby Club. The team placed 3rd in Louisiana in 2006 and 2nd in 2007, earning the 8th and final seed in the South Regional Tournament. From that bottom rung, Rummel defeated both the Tennessee and Georgia state champions to make it to the final, where arch rival Jesuit once again stood in their way, ending a remarkable late-season run of victories.

Rugby is considered by some to be the penultimate sport for the all-around athlete. Combining a need for cardio-vascular fitness, core body strength, fast-twitch sprinting and leaping ability, hand and foot skill, quick and accurate decision-making, and most importantly the mental and physical toughness to play a full-contact sport for 60 minutes with only a singe halftime break, rugby brings together the core skills required by all of the most popular team sports played in this country.

As both a team of dedicated athletes and a sanctioned club of Archbishop Rummel, our players and club members strive for nothing less than absolute excellence in their performance on the field, their dedication to school and community off the field, and the solemn commitment to carry themselves with the pride and demeanor of a Rummel Christian Gentleman in both places.

The impact and influence of Rummel Rugby can now be seen throughout Louisiana as the sport continues to grow and flourish at every level. Rummel alumni now make up significant portions of the squads at LSU and UL. Rummel continues to stock both the Louisiana U19 and U17 All-Star teams which compete in summer tournaments against other states' All-Star teams. Alumni Patrick Kennedy ('07) and Trey Harper ('07) were recently selected as college freshmen to play on the Deep South Collegiate All-Star team. Cody Cadella ('06), who now serves as President of LSU Rugby, last summer attended the final 40-player tryout for the American Junior National Team, the Eagles. 

Please come support Rummel Rugby at the Louisiana State Championship April 26-27 at the New Orleans Rugby Grounds in Gretna, or at any of the season's remaining regular season matches.
