Academic Scholarships

As an indication of the school's strong commitment to academic excellence, Archbishop Rummel has expanded its Academic Scholarship Program for eighth and ninth graders. The intention is to attract the very best grammar school students in the New Orleans metropolitan area and to challenge them with a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. The school seeks excellence in all aspects of high school life and has four scholarship programs available for qualifying students. There is no limit on the number of academic scholarships available to new eighth and ninth grade students.

The four Academic Scholarship Programs for eighth and ninth grade students are as follows:

ARCHBISHOP JOSEPH FRANCIS RUMMEL HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

$1,000 Each Year
Requirements:
- 98-99 percentile on placement test
- "A" work at elementary school
- Maintain a 3.50 GPA in the curriculum assigned    by the school

ST. JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLE HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

$800 Each Year
Requirements:
- 96-97 percentile on placement test
- "A" work at elementary school
- Maintain a 3.50 GPA in the curriculum assigned by the school

RUMMEL RAIDER HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

$600 Each Year

LA SALLIAN HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

$400 Each Year
Requirements:
- 90-93 percentile on placement test
- "A/B" work at elementary school
- Maintain a 3.25 GPA in the curriculum assigned by the school.

All applicants must be entering the eighth or ninth grade and are required to take the placement test. There is only one opportunity for the test and students taking the make-up test will not be able to qualify.

On the basis of placement test scores, the school’s Scholarship Committee, headed by the principal, considers students who potentially qualify for the scholarships. Previous school records and recommendations from principals are sought.

In general, the scholarship awards go to students with the highest placement test scores (90 percentile minimum) who meet the criteria for the award. The school has no limit on the number of grants available for distribution.

All scholarships are renewable on an annual basis provided the recipient maintains his GPA and performance criteria.
