Dear Raider Nation: A special congratulations needs to be given to Mike Latino from the class of ’87. Mike is the leading force behind The Renew New Orleans Foundation, a recently incorporated non-profit fundraising organization. The goal of the Foundation is to raise funds needed to enhance the quality of life for children and the disadvantaged in the Greater New Orleans area adversely affected by Hurricane Katrina. The Foundation is currently raising funds through its Renew New Orleans wristband campaign. In exchange for a donation, individuals receive a distinguishable silicone wristband highlighted by the traditional purple, green, and gold colors of Mardi Gras and emblazoned with the phrase, “Renew New Orleans.” Proceeds from the Foundation’s fundraising activities are donated to local Greater New Orleans charities that support the renewal of New Orleans as a safe, vibrant and thriving city. Emphasis is placed on charities that enhance life through education, health, human services, arts, culture and humanities. To date, proceeds have been donated to Boys Hope Girls Hope of New Orleans and the Preservation Resource Center. Mike currently resides in Plano, TX with his wife and two children and is the Executive Vice President of Sales for Stonebridge Technologies, an IT consulting firm. More information about the Renew New Orleans Foundation can be found on their web site at www.renewnola.org.
