Students are Teachers
On July 25,2006, Mr. Mark Firmin and students from last year's Advanced Placement Statistics class gave a presentation to math and science teachers at the Math & Science Institute held at St. Martin's High School in Metairie. Andrew Faucheux, Matt Pittman, Alex Boudreau, Ryan Rogers, and Adam Kline helped Mr. Firmin give a presentation on service learning in the math or science classroom. The students made a presentation on the statistics newsletter that they designed for 4th and 8th grade students to help with standardized testing. Mr. Firmin served on the steering committee for this conference in conjunction with Dr. Andy Tallmadge in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of New Orleans. The teachers attending the conference had plenty of questions for the AP Stats students about their work giving the newsletter to 4th graders at Matas Elementary in Metairie.
