For 38 years, the Genesian Players have been performing spectacular plays. Named
for St. Genesius, the Roman Comedian and Christian martyr, the Archbishop Rummel dramatics
club is responsible for the drama program at school. The Genesians started in 1963, and
under the direction of Mr. Charles Guajardo. Today Mr. Guajardo and his assistant
Mrs. Dufour keep the Genesian Players running as strong as ever.
Archbishop Rummel is known for its extraordinary plays.
Winning 1st place in the state competition for 13 consecutive years is proof of
that. From 1964-1977 the Genesian Players won first place in every state drama
competition. With the addition of the new Genesian Theatre expected in '2002, the
performances will be even more enjoyable.
There are usually three plays a year: a comedy, a drama or
mystery, and a musical. Only Rummel students are eligible to audition for the male
roles. It is common for ARHS students from other organizations, such as athletic
teams, student council, band, cheerleaders, and so on, to be seen performing on the
Genesian Players' stage. Girls from any area high school are also eligible to
audition for female roles. Everyone must audition. If a student would rather not act in a
play, there are many other positions such as sound, lights, ushers, and many more in the
Genesian organization. A dedicated Genesian Player may accumulate enough points to
earn a letter and finally a letter jacket.
