Mr. Arthur Richard

Ms. Patty Richard

The Story
During the 11th year at Archbishop Rummel High School, a young Mr. Arthur Richard joined the faculty as a religion teacher. His ability to work with the students and ever-growing popularity has kept him here for the past 25 years. Last week, ARHS celebrated his anniversary here at the final school Mass. During an interview, Mr. Richard told us that Rummel was the fifth school in which he had taught. Mr. Richard taught at St. Stanislaus, Catholic High, Brother Martin and Chapelle before coming to ARHS. He is most known around campus for being the outspoken and hilarious Math teacher everyone always wants on the Junior High Campus. Also, Mr. Richard Is always willing to help anyone with math problems, even if he is not your teacher and he is always there for whatever problems you may have.  He currently teaches Algebra I, II and Integrated Algebra.  His wife, whom he met while teaching at Chapelle High School,  Ms. Patty Richard, came to the ARHS Faculty in 1989 teaching Reading on the Junior High Campus.
Ms. Patty Richard has been at Rummel for the past 12 years. Prior to that she taught at Redemptorist and Chapelle, where she met her husband, Mr. Richard. She is known around campus for her talent, her loving attitude, her respect towards students, but most of all her kindness. Ms Richard, like Mr. Richard is very interested in the students lives and will help a student in anyway she can.  Her favorite part of Rummel is the “wonderful co-workers.” She is currently the Reading Department Head. She has a Masters of Education from U.N.O. Mr. and Ms. Richard are now only one of four married couples on the campus. During Mr. Richard’s moment of fame last week, he received an enormous amount of applause from the student body and faculty. He commented on this by saying, “I could not be more proud, I was so very happy.” In 1992 Mr. Richard was honored with the award of Teacher of the Year in Chicago. Also his two daughters Katie (20) and Laura (17) were introduced to the student body. Outside the Rummel Community, Mr. Richard loves to read novels, to listen to music, and to go out to eat with his family. Mr. Richard has a B.S. in Secondary Education from Spring Hill College. He also has a Masters of Arts in Theology from St. Mary’s College in California. Some of Mr. Richard’s favorite moments here was in 1980 when Rummel beat Brother Martin in the last quarter to win the District Championship. He also fondly remembers when he won the faculty part of the 5-k Race in 1981. Something not a lot of people know about Mr. Richard is that he was once a Brother of the Sacred Heart. Mr. Richard's feelings of Rummel are that “Rummel is a good school with plenty, plenty good kids and a very warm faculty. Anyone who wants to be happy as a teacher is happy here.” Thanks Mr. Richard, we wish you many more years to come at ARHS. There are so many words to describe Mr. Richard, but right now we will just call him a Rummel Icon.
