Academic Departments


English Department

Ms. Ronnie McKenna, Department Head
Students take an English course each year while at Archbishop Rummel High School.  Courses are offered in all curriculum levels including separate English and reading courses in the lower grade levels.  English IV,  IV H and English V H students have the opportunity to partner with Southeastern Louisiana University in the dual enrollment program to earn college credit while still an Archbishop Rummel student.

Fine Arts Department

The Archbishop Rummel Fine Arts Department is composed of three divisions:  speech, art, and music.  The Fine Arts Department offers classes in Art 1-IV (studio), band (advanced and beginner), photography, video production, and fine arts survey.

Foreign Language Department

Two years of the same modern language are required for an Archbishop Rummel diploma.  Courses are offered in Spanish and Latin.  Latin  is required of all eighth grade students in the five year Advanced Honors curriculum and all Honors English I students in ninth grade.

Mathematics Department

Math is a required course each of the years the student attends Archbishop Rummel High School.  The Honors program includes a full year of calculus in addition to four traditional high school courses.  Also, pre-calculus students have the opportunity to partner with Southeastern Louisiana University in the dual enrollment program to earn college credit while still an Archbishop Rummel student.

Four credits of science are required for graduation with an elective option of Biology II, Environmental Science, or Physics as a senior.  Students will complete Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry in addition to the elective choice.

Social Studies Department

To earn an Archbishop Rummel diploma, a student must earn four credits in the Social Sciences.  These courses are Western Civilization, American History,  Civics, and World Geography.   Students studying American History Honors can have dual enrollment through Southeastern Louisianan University and receive college credit.

Theology Department


All students at Archbishop Rummel High School are required to earn a full credit of religion each year. All students must pass each course and attend the appropriate grade level retreat in order to receive an Archbishop Rummel diploma.

Archbishop Rummel High School educates each student according to the principles of the Catholic Church in the Lasallian tradition of faith, community, and service.
