Formation

Faith

Archbishop Rummel High School is committed to forming the Lasallian tradition of Faith in each student.  During their years on the Archbishop Rummel campus, every young man is invited to be faithful to Jesus Christ, to the Gospel, and to the Spirit as he commits his talents to the service of God’s work.  Faith formation is at the core of the Archbishop Rummel experience. Building on the academic religious training, the school seeks to develop in each student a deeper relationship with God and with other members of the school community.

To facilitate this, the religious education staff brings the young men on grade-level retreats designed to join together with what they are covering in their religions classes.  During each month of the school year, Campus Ministry has liturgies that range from prayer services to special Masses.  Outside of the classroom there are several clubs which the students may join to give them the opportunity to share their faith with others, gain a living knowledge of their faith, or to make a difference in their community.

Archbishop Rummel students have an opportunity to participate in numerous faith events in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and throughout the country in order to expand their faith and meet others of their faith on the same journey. Archbishop Rummel students are leaders in promoting faith development as they serve others in all they do.

Community

Archbishop Rummel High School is committed to forming the Lasallian tradition of Community in each student.  The first time a new student walks onto the Severn Avenue campus, he becomes a member of the Raider community.  Not only is he welcomed as a brother to the student body, but also the faculty and staff of Archbishop Rummel also develop him.  Over his years as a Raider, academic and spiritual growth is vital to being a part of the community.

Like the Christian Brothers who gave birth to the school back in 1962, current school leaders work to continue their Brothers’ charism of community with its student and teacher populations.  Both work together in the classroom, in after school activities, and in their social life.

Students of all backgrounds are welcome to share in this total educational experience.   Likewise, Archbishop Rummel recognizes the realities of family life and welcomes and supports students from families from various backgrounds.  All parents have a similar place in the life of the school.  Community is the binding tradition that also unites the young men to the alumni that have graduated before them.

Service

Archbishop Rummel High School is committed to forming the Lasallian tradition of Service in each student.  To encompass the LaSallian heritage of service, Archbishop Rummel directs each student to participate in a Catholic service program that encourages him to become leaders who serve others and leaders who care.  Students are encouraged to understand the LaSallian definition of social justice so they can perform service work in the community.

The school has an Office of Community Service and its director works with students in selecting appropriate service projects.  Archbishop Rummel students have become an influential presence in assisting those in need in the community and rebuilding the community by the range and quality of service opportunities offered.

During their high school careers, students in the program develop an orientation towards Christian service by gradually increasing commitments to various service options, culminating in their senior year with a final opportunity to reflect on the success and impact of their service projects.  Archbishop Rummel’s goal is that they incorporate service as a core value in their lives and see it at the hard of what it means to be a leader in society.
