Mr. Michael Mahoney
Mr. Mahoney has served Rummel for the last 24 years but has a total of 35 years in Education. From
1988 – 1999, he was employed at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, in Madison, MS. He coached 7th grade football, varsity soccer, moderated the tennis team. While there he taught US History, World History, Geography, and all levels of Spanish. He also served as the middle school principal. Through his years here, he has taught Spanish, Advanced Math, Algebra, ACT Prep and PSAT Prep. He served as Assistant Principal for Academics from 2003 through 2007. He was co-principal for our summer school from 2001-2004. After hurricane Katrina, when most high school campuses in the greater New Orleans area were damaged and unable to open, Mr. Mahoney, along with other Rummel administrators planned and executed the Rummel Transition School – affectionately referred to as ‘Rummel T.’ This school opened its doors to all displaced high school students, male and female, from any area high school. The school operated on a platoon system with the Rummel students attending the morning sessions and the Rummel T students attending the afternoon session. The school was disbanded in early 2006 when the displaced students were able to return to their own campuses. Mr. Mahoney, along with the other ARHS administrators at that time, saved hundreds of students from losing a whole semester of high school studies and gave them back a sense of normalcy amongst all the devastation of the time.
