FACULTY/STAFF HONOREES 2024
Mr. Robert Whitman ’69 – 45-year recipient:
Mr. Whitman graduated from Rummel in 1969. He has had 50 relatives graduate from our school: 5 presently here now. Over his career here, he has served in numerous positions. He was hired as a guidance counselor, eventually serving as the Director of Guidance. He was the Director of Special Education and the Gifted & Talented Coordinator, as well as a math teacher. For the last several years he has directed the PreProfessional Program and taught Engineering, Biomedical Sciences and Law. He has assisted with extra-curricular activities too, having coached baseball and basketball, and currently coordinates the Robotics team. He is a past president of the School Advisory Board.
When hurricane Katrina devastated the city in 2005, Mr. Whitman gathered a group of students who went all through the area helping to clean up homes and properties. This group eventually became known as Youth Rebuilding New Orleans. YRNO is still active in the area fixing and flipping run down properties.
Mr. Whitman first played in the student versus faculty basketball game 50 years ago. And the teachers won that game too!
Ms. Connie Carrigee – 40-year recipient:
Ms. Connie Carrigee joined the Archbishop Rummel family in 1984 as an assistant to the school treasurer. Throughout her 40-year career, she has served with several school leaders and has held various positions in the Finance Department. Currently serving as the school’s Chief Financial Officer.
You may not see her out on campus much, but she is instrumental in keeping our school running smoothly on a daily basis. Her position requires her to interact with parents, faculty and staff, administrators, and superintendents daily; and she does so in a courteous and professional manner. She oversees anything and everything related to the school’s finances; including all purchases made for the school, from classroom supplies, to whatever is needed for major campus projects, and so much more.
Ms. Carrigee has 2 sons who are alumni of our school; Kevin, class of 1992, who is married to Korie, and Kenneth, class of 1997, who is married to Bethany. Her son Kevin and her daughters-in-law are educators. Kenneth recently retired from the U.S. Army National Guard after 22 years of service.
Mrs. Charlene Wetzel – 35- year recipient:
Mrs. Charlene Wetzel joined the Raider Community as a member of the cheer team in 1979 and became captain and homecoming court member her senior year. After graduating she became the Rummel Cheerleading coach for eleven years. She began her teaching career at ARHS in 1989 in the Science department teaching Earth, Integrated and Physical Sciences. She earned her Master’s degree in Lasallian Leadership and was named the Distinguished Lasallian Educator from our District in 2013. She is currently serving on the Board of Trustees for Christian Brothers School.
Mrs. Wetzel’s family history begins with her brother-in-law Gary Wetzel, class of ’68, Uncle Rick Comfort, class of 72, Brothers Jay Suter, class of ’76 and Steve Suter, class of ’80. Her cousins Frank Dennies and Jackson Dennies graduated in classes of ’15 and ‘20
